10 unique Portland-area coffee shops you can visit by TriMet

Oct 15, 2024

The Portland-area is well-known for its thriving coffee culture, with hundreds of cafes serving artisan roasts. This network of coffee shops creates world-class, hand-crafted flavors in vibrant community spaces. As a bonus, many of the region’s best coffee shops are easily accessible by transit. Here’s where to go and how to get there by bus and rail.

Downtown

SuperJoy Coffee Lab/Roasters is at the corner of SW 14th and Jefferson, conveniently located close to several bus and MAX lines. Their fans praise the cozy ambience and expert roasts, and they get lots of love for their creative lattes. SuperJoy’s owner has even earned several certifications from The Specialty Coffee Association and the Coffee Quality Institute.

NE Portland

Jet Black Coffee Company checks a lot of boxes: They’re named in tribute to a song by iconic punk band Jawbreaker, serve all vegan products and they have coffee drinks with organic syrups and chocolate sauce. Plus, they’re within walking/rolling distance from transit. They have two locations.

SE Portland

You can get it all at Carnelian Coffee: Cold brew, macchiato, loose leaf tea, food and, for the rockhounds, lovingly curated displays of amazing rocks and gems. Named after the carnelian stone (noted for its gorgeous orangey-red color), there’s even a specialty drink called the “Thunderegg,” plus a few other non-coffee drinks.

The Kenton neighborhood is home to Presso Coffee, where they roast beans weekly to create hot and iced drinks, as well as seasonal specialties. You can grab sandwiches, toast, or hot cocoa or tea if you need a break from coffee. It’s conveniently located just a few blocks from the MAX Green Line’s Kenton/N Denver Ave station.

SW Portland

Village Coffee, in Multnomah Village, has been a neighborhood mainstay since 1995. You’ll enjoy their coffee classics, like the Americano, cappuccino and mocha, but don’t sleep on their specials, either. We think you’ll also enjoy the shop’s cute and cozy vibes.

Beaverton

Westsiders rave about Ki Coffee’s hot and cold drinks. They serve a variety of big, bagel sandwiches, plus avocado toast with bacon, house made aioli and other tasty toppings. You can also pick up bags of whole bean Thornton Coffee to enjoy at home.

Ava Roseria is centrally-located in the heart of the Orenco Station community. They roast their own beans to create made-to-order drinks. You can also get a variety of baked goods, from croissants to sweet treats before hopping on the MAX Blue or Red lines, which are just steps away.

Milwaukie

The Pit Stop, in downtown Milwaukie, serves drip coffee, classic espresso styles and sandwiches, but we’re really intrigued by their seasonal coffee specials, like the blueberry cheesecake cold brew and Samoa cookie mocha. There’s a stop for Line 32-Oatfield right outside their door, and the Orange Line’s Milwaukie/Main St MAX Station is just across the street.

Oregon City

Black Ink Coffee’s beans are sourced from multiple roasters, which is a fun way to discover new favorites. Their baristas pour some beautiful latte art, too. There’s also a bookstore in the same space, meaning, you may never want to leave.
